I think I started drawing as soon as I could hold a pencil. I remember
drawing as a young child, and each time I created a picture, I always thought it
was magical. When completing a picture or doodling, I was (and still am) in a
space that was peaceful and tranquil. To this day, it still calms my whole
being, I am it, and it is me. Throughout my life thus far, my art has ebbed and
flowed. I find that my artwork finds me when I most need it, to be grounded
again. As we all do, we lose touch with that inner need to create, whether it be
music, paintings, or poetry, we all have a deep rooted need to create, and I’ve
been lucky enough to take this time to create, and connect with myself and
others.
As I reflect on my journey as an artist, I see a thread that has always been
embedded in my art from early on. As a fan of Snoopy and Woodstock, I
have always admired Charles Schultz’s ability to create the simplicity of The
Peanuts, yet weave subtle gestures of the characters’ bodies that conveyed
strong emotions. So I must credit Charles Schultz for my love for simple images
which have certain gestures that evoke an emotion.
Color, nature and family have been an underlining inspiration for many pieces
I have created. There is a simplicity in nature and children that I honor and
treasure. It too has those subtle movements that evoke emotions. Colors help me
define those movements and help me express the magical emotions in children and
nature.
Art is magic!
